The Butch Clothing Company recently launched in Brighton, UK. BCC’s website states its intentions to design clothes “that will ultimately fit a butch woman perfectly,” drawing inspiration from “classic male styles and the latest fashion trends.”

But, insists Shaz Riley–who dreamed up and launched the line of shirts, suits, and trousers–in one interview with The Guardian, “butches don’t want to be or look like men; we just don’t want to wear female clothing.”

Riley adds that “Whatever you do to a man’s suit, a woman does not look right in it.” BCC will tailor its clothes to fit the female body (without, like other makers of womens’ suits, accentuating the waist or breasts) and hopes to find among its clientele those seeking formalwear for civil partnership ceremonies in the UK.
