Time 100….Out 100?

29 Apr

I was shuffling through the just-released list of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2010, and I was pleasantly surprised at how many slots members of the LGBTQA community were able to rack up.

We have Annise Parker, Houston’s recently elected mayor and openly partnered lesbian with three children.

We have Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who’s fighting for gays and lesbians freedom to serve openly in the army:

“No matter how I look at this issue, I cannot escape being troubled by the fact that we have in place a policy which forces young men and women to lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens.”

Of course, there’s bisexual Lady Gaga, who brings the blurring of gender to pop culture on a daily basis.

Studly but hilarious Neil Patrick Harris made the list, a man who changed the game for gay actors when he came out to no muss and fuss and still successfully landed copious straight roles.

Elton John’s on the list, as an incredibly successful entrepreneur (Billy Elliot anyone?) who’s also done a lot to fight the AIDS crisis while leading a successfully married life.

Marc Jacobs is the ONLY fashion designer to make the list, and rightfully so, as he’s one of the most influentialand original contemporary designers out there today.

Of course, these are just several that I selected so I encourage you to check out the complete list. Then again who’s to say there aren’t a whole lot more on the list who are simply not out of the closet,

Oh Opraaaahhhhhh…
