Obama Makes A Move…

16 Apr

“There are few moments in our lives that call for greater compassion and companionship than when a loved one is admitted to the hospital,”

“Yet every day, all across America, patients are denied the kindnesses and caring of a loved one at their sides.”

Last night Obama made what might have been his biggest move yet as an advocate for gay rights, ordering the legalization of hosptial visitation for members of the LGBT community. No longer can medical facilities discriminate against sexual orientation or gender identity by adhering to their strict “relatives-only” policies.

Sure this should never have been illegal in the first place or have taken so long to be abolished, but at least now ailing patients can have their life partners by their sides without thinking twice. And this new ruling won’t just affect gay couples, as it will grant patients the ability to pick their “circle of intimacy” and allow for any such person who is not a categorizable relative to visit a loved one.

Although I’m excited and appreciative of this news, my response still yielded a “finally!” and I will once again have to twiddle my thumbs for a while to wait for what Obama will do next. But for now, Mr. President, brava.
